Welling: a place with more history than most people notice
Welling sits on Watling Street, one of the oldest roads in Britain, built by the Romans and used continuously for almost two thousand years. The modern A207 follows exactly the same route. Most people drive it without giving it a second thought.
At Welling Corner there is a more recent reminder of the past: a Russian cannon, captured during the Crimean War in the 1850s and installed here as a war trophy along with a handful of similar guns placed around London. It stands on Upper Wickham Lane and is easy to miss, but it has been there for over 150 years.
A few streets away, St Michael's Church in East Wickham has Norman foundations dating back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest surviving churches in Greater London. Welling may not shout about its history, but it has plenty of it.

By car: From Welling Corner, head south on Bellegrove Road, then onto Upper Wickham Lane and Blackfen Road to Days Lane. The journey is around 10 minutes. Street parking is available on Days Lane.
By train: Welling station is on the Southeastern Dartford Loop Line. Three stops towards London via Bexleyheath and Barnehurst brings you to Albany Park, around a 10-minute walk from the practice.
By bus: The 51 (Woolwich to Orpington) runs through Welling and stops at Annandale Road on Days Lane, right next to the practice. A direct route with no changes.
